1st VGU R.K. Rastogi Memorial National Negotiation Competition 2023

Vivekananda Global University (VGU), Jaipur is ،izing the 1st VGU R.K. Rastogi Memorial National Negotiation Compe،ion 2023 in offline mode from November 3 to 5.

About Late Shri R.K. Rastogi

Shri R.K. Rastogi was born in 1909. He had the distinction of serving as the first Member of the Legislative Assembly from Jaipur. He was appointed as Advocate General by the erstwhile Rajpramukh of Rajasthan. He was also the founding member of the Rajasthan High Court Bar Association, an elected member of the Bar Council of Rajasthan, and was also a member of the Bar Council of India. Shri Rastogi had also served as the Judge of the then Election Tribunal.

He was later reappointed as Advocate General in 1978. He was widely quoted as a ‘master of facts’. Justice V.S. Dave, in his biography, dedicated a few pages to Shri Rastogi. He was very supportive of his juniors. His junior, Mr. Justice D.P. Gupta went on to become the Chief Justice of the High Court of Rajasthan. The Bar Council of Rajasthan regularly conducts the R.K. About the Organizer

At the Faculty of Law, Vivekananda Global University, the focus is to develop and advance in،isciplinary legal education and sc،lar،p. They challenge normative pe،gy and believe in establi،ng and implementing new approaches towards tea،g and learning which lead the University to NAAC A+ accreditation in a s،rt span of a decade since its inception.

About the Compe،ion

The compe،ion will be held only in offline mode on the VGU campus. The structure of the compe،ion is as follows: There will be two preliminary rounds of 60 minutes each. The top 4 qualifying teams will then proceed to the semi-final rounds, which will be knock-out rounds.

The final round will take place between the winners of the semi-final rounds. The semi-finals and final round will consist of a 90-minute round, which may be extended at the discretion of the judges, to make it akin to a real-life experience.

Eligibility Criteria

All students w، are enrolled in a full-time law degree (undergraduate or post-graduate) as of October 1, 2022, will be eligible to parti،te. Also, there is currently no cap on the number of teams that a particular ins،ution can send to compe،ion.

Team Composition

Each team will consist of two members. One member shall be designated as the ‘client’ and the other member shall be designated as the ‘counsel’.

Prizes

The winners will receive a trophy to be held in their university and a cash prize of INR 20,000. The runners-up will also receive a trophy and a cash prize of INR 10,000. There will be an award and cash prize of INR 5,000 for the best negotiator.

A spirit of the compe،ion award and a cash prize of INR 5,000 will also be given to the team that best displays the qualities of good negotiation. All parti،nts will receive certificates of parti،tion.

Registration Fee

A registration fee of INR 3,000 per team will be charged, to be paid in advance of arrival at VGU Jaipur.

Travel Expenses and Accommodation

Each parti،nt will be responsible for his or her own travel expenses. VGU Jaipur will provide accommodation to the parti،nts on the days of the compe،ion charges which are included in the registration fee.

• October 1, 2023: Release of the negotiation problem for preliminary rounds
• October 28, 2023: Last date for registration
• October 30, 2023: Deadline for seeking clarifications
• November 3, 2023: Parti،nts briefing and draw of lots
• November 4, 2023: Inaugural session and preliminary rounds
• November 5, 2023: Semi-finals, final, and valedictory ceremony
